Terms of Service
Last updated 20 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Nocto ("Nocto", "we", "us"), which runs nocto.app. By creating an account or using Nocto, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use Nocto.
1. What Nocto is
Nocto is a study tool for medical students. You import practice questions from PDFs you have the right to use. Nocto prepares supported questions and identifies anything it cannot import. You can then review them and take simulated exams with them, and see your progress by subject.
Questions come from your imports or classes you choose to join. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NBME, the USMLE program, the Medical Council of Canada, or any medical school or exam provider. Nocto is for study only. Nothing in it is medical advice, and we don't promise any exam result.
2. Your account
- You need an account with an email address you can receive mail at.
- Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- An account is for one person. Don't share it or sell access to it.
- You must be at least 16, and old enough where you live to agree to these terms.
- If you think someone else has used your account, email support@nocto.app.
3. Your content
The PDFs and questions you import stay yours. Only import material you have the right to use for your own study.
Nocto reads the PDF on your device and does not upload it. The questions you approve are saved to your private library, so you can use them on any device you sign in on. You give us permission to store, copy and process that content only to run Nocto for you. We don't sell it, we share it with the providers that process it for us (listed in our Privacy Policy) and, only when you explicitly publish a class copy, its authorized members, and we don't use it for advertising or to train AI models.
If you add lecture slides, add only lectures you are allowed to use for your own study, and follow your school's rules on using AI tools. Lecture matching sends text from your lectures and questions to our AI provider, as the Privacy Policy describes. Matches are suggestions made by AI and can be wrong. Your personal material is not shared through lecture matching.
If we receive a credible notice that content in an account infringes someone else's rights, we may remove it.
Sharing a course as a class · share-course-v1
Creating a shared class requires Nocto Pro. Joining is free and by invitation only; there is no public directory. Share only material you have permission to distribute to your invited members, including its answers and explanations. Private study access alone does not necessarily include permission to redistribute material.
Before publishing, review the member preview and its exclusion notes. This first version shares eligible text questions only. Questions that contain or depend on images or tables are excluded. The published copy is fixed: later edits to your personal course or banks do not change it, and corrections cannot be made in place. You can withdraw a question or bank or close the class. Check the preview before confirming publication.
Anyone who receives a valid invitation link can use it, within its expiry and join limit. Keep links within your intended group and revoke them when needed. Creators see members’ display names and membership status only. They cannot view members’ private study activity or email addresses. Creators can remove members and close their class.
Use Report in the class to flag incorrect, unsafe or unauthorized material. Rights holders can email support@nocto.app with the class or bank details, the concern and a way to reply. Nocto may restrict a question, bank or class while reviewing it. The creator is given the decision and a route to request review; reporter contact details are not shared with the creator.
4. Acceptable use
Don't:
- try to reach other people's data, or get around Nocto's security or limits;
- overload, scrape or reverse-engineer the service;
- use Nocto to break the law or infringe anyone's rights.
5. Free plan and Pro
The free plan lets you import and review your own questions (up to 100 quizzes) with a lifetime preview of 50 new Practice answer reveals, and a separate 3-exam Timed Exam preview. Reopening an already revealed answer is free; a new Try again reveal uses another reveal. A Timed Exam counts once you finish it or its timer runs out. An untimed exam counts 24 hours after you start it.
Personal Practice and newly created shared classes use one account-wide lifetime allowance of 50 reveals. Reopening is free only for the same question in the same class and bank; another copy or class does not inherit that free reopening. Leaving, deleting or recreating a class never resets usage. The existing NB1 beta Classroom keeps its separately stated allowance.
Pro costs CA$6 per month and adds unlimited immediate Practice reveals and Timed Exams. Existing revealed answers, notes and history remain accessible if Pro ends. We may change what the free plan includes. Any change applies from then on.
6. Billing
- Pro is a monthly subscription, paid in advance through our payment processor, Stripe.
- It renews automatically every month until you cancel.
- Prices are in Canadian dollars. Your bank may charge a currency conversion fee.
- If we change the price, we'll email you at least 30 days before it applies to you, so you can cancel first if you want to.
- If a payment fails, Pro may stop until it is paid.
7. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time, from Manage subscription in Nocto or by emailing us. Our Refunds & cancellation policy is part of these terms.
8. Ending your account
You can stop using Nocto at any time. To have your account and library deleted, email support@nocto.app.
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. If we close a paid account for any other reason, we'll refund the unused part of the current month.
9. The service
We work to keep Nocto running and your data safe, but Nocto is provided "as is" and "as available". We may change, add or remove features. Your original PDFs stay on your device; keep them, since they are your only full copy.
10. Liability
As far as the law allows, Nocto is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost data, or exam outcomes. Our total liability to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For a significant change, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using Nocto after that, the new terms apply.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. This does not remove protections you have under the consumer laws of the place where you live.
